Purpose
The Welding CDE is designed to promote and create an interest in welding by providing opportunities for recognition through evaluation of students' hands-on skills and general knowledge. These skills prepare students for employment in the broad field of welding, including agricultural and industrial welding.
What students do: Each student on a team of four competes in one welding process: SMAW (stick), MIG, OFW (oxy-fuel), or GTAW (TIG). Students follow a blueprint to complete welds in that process and take a written exam on it, including shop safety. Unsafe welding practices can lead to disqualification.
