Purpose

The Food Science & Technology CDE promotes learning activities in food science and technology related to the food industry and helps students develop practical knowledge of the principles used in team decision-making.

What students do: Teams of four develop a food product for a scenario: they choose ingredients, calculate the Nutrition Facts panel, design the package, and plan production and food safety. Each student also takes a general knowledge exam and completes sensory tests (aroma identification and triangle tests) and a food safety practicum.

Allergy Information

Food products used in this event may contain or come in contact with potential allergens. Advisors must submit a special needs request to the event superintendent(s) for participants with any allergies. The event committee will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate students with food allergies.
